Al Gore: If global warming is caused by human fossil fuel use, why are the caps on mars melting as well?
by: thatguy2007I want to hear an answer from you liberals concerning this fact. You libs claim that our caps are melting b/c of CO2 emissions via humans. Then is Mars warming b/c of humans as well? Think about it – just another reason to dispel your Al Gore myths. Did you ever think that we are just going through a warming phase or that the warming might have something to do with the sun (independent of our actions)?

the problem with Al Gore’s theory is that he doesnt explore the history of climate changes… this planet has existed for an estimated 8-10 billion years.. in that time there have been ice ages and other periods where it was hot.. if you look at patterns of climate change, you can see that there have been periods of time (even before humans existed) where the planet got warmer or colder.. yes it is possible that the CO2 and “greenhouse gasses” are helping to cause the warming that we are now experiencing, but that is not the only cause.. it is (if anything) a combination of 2 or more things causing this “global warming”

I am not a liberal, but I do follow astronomy. Warming on Mars is probably caused by small changes in the tilt of its rotational axis. Earth has a large Moon that stabilizes its axial tilt, but Mars does not.
Personally I think we can get better measurement of what the Sun is doing with various solar science satellites than we can by looking at the weather on Mars. And those satellites do not show any increase in heat from the Sun. There are theories that changes in the magnetic field of the Sun could cause indirect effects to Earth’s cloud cover that could account for warming, but that isn’t proved as far as I know. It isn’t disproved either though.
