Renewable Energy Gets Boost From Chancellor

by: Duncan FreerChancellor Alistair Darling’s Pre-Budget Report (PBR) has been seen as one of the most important packages of government proposals in over a decade. Included in that package were some very positive moves for renewable energy, which could equate to a big increase in ‘green-collar’ jobs – particularly renewable energy jobs, nuclear jobs and other careers in the UK’s energy industries.

The government gave a significant boost to the wind power industry by promising to extend the Renewables Obligation of financial support until 2037. The Renewables Obligation, which places a legal requirement on UK electricity suppliers to source any growing percentage of their power from green sources, was originally only in place until 2027. The Chancellor’s 10-year extension is intended to “ensure investors can plan with confidence for the future”. The British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) said that the move was “really encouraging” and would stimulate companies looking at plans to build expensive projects deep into the North Sea. These projects include tidal projects as well as offshore windfarms and other renewable energy sources. This extension of the Renewables Obligation gives these companies a reassurance that the government will be investing in renewable energy, which translates into a greater confidence and business growth, which in turn inevitably leads to more job opportunities.

With government targets for 10% of UK electricity supplies to come from renewable supplies only two years away, the renewable energy industry is pumping investment into new methods of meeting those targets, again all good news for those looking for careers in the UK’s energy market. Nuclear power will be part of that package, so nuclear jobs look set to increase as new stations come online as part of the UK’s long-term plans to meet its energy needs. Despite a real desire for environmental energy to be the key to Britain’s future energy needs, there is a shortfall in supply and demand. It is probable that this shortfall will be taken up by the nuclear industry, whether the public wants it or not. The alternative is a country that cannot meet its own energy demands, so a compromise has to be made.

But not only has the Renewables Obligation been given an additional 10 year lifespan – the Chancellor also announced that the government would be bringing capital spending forward to finance the environmental sector as a whole. Mr. Darling said that this could potentially create one million jobs in the low-carbon industry over the next 20 years, giving the UK a new growth industry that has a long-term future. This obviously means a big increase in the number of potential energy jobs available and a stable career platform for thousands of people. Philip Wolfe, director general of the Renewable Energy Association said that “energy projects are significant undertakings and companies require 15 to 20 years of a stable policy framework stretching ahead of them to give them the confidence to invest.” It is this investment confidence that not only would benefit the environment, but the jobs market as well.

Although the oil industry is in surprisingly fine fettle and currently meets most of our energy demands, renewable energy is the future of both supply and production not just in the UK but globally as well. The Environmental Industries Commission calls on the government to go further, saying that the development and implementation of a long-term growth strategy that includes a clear environmental policy framework, incentives, research funding and skills development is a matter of urgency if the UK is not to be left behind in the race to become a leading low-carbon economy. All of this again bodes well for those seeking careers in the energy industry and renewable energy jobs in particular.

Top 5 Reasons Why Startup Renewable Energy Companies Fail

by: Shirlyn DeeSometimes it takes more than one to push the boundaries of technology. It seems that no matter how much renewable energy marketing is actively propagated it seems that there are just some that can’t maintain their composure and just dissolve in thin air.

Renewable energy company owners are more often than not optimistic that it could sustain a considerable number of houses and can talk owners into converting to solar paneled roof tops to cut energy costs.

First, not all consumers are as optimistic as the company. Sure consumers are open for talks and introductions but purchasing is another thing. Unless current energy resources are all flushed down the toilet, consumers will just find ways in saving up without converting into renewable energy.

Take for example the water powered car. We’ve heard of it and it has been on sale for more than a year but how many people actually owns them? The initial cost of a hydro-car costs as much as $5000 for a two-seater car. For a tiny car, you might want to pause and think.

Second, large scale renewable energy plants require a certain amount of land. In cases of hydro-electric plants a construction of a large dam is a must. It takes money and good fore sight to make everything work.

Dams that are built in a poorly results to unsightly calamities so good fore sight is needed to guarantee stability and of the dam. Energy plants need the luxury of space in order to operate properly. On the other hand, in most parts of the world, space is scarce and is demand than ever.

Third, it is too darn costly at the start. Unless a renewable energy company is an off shoot of a larger more stable company, small renewable energy company crumbles within the first few years of it being established.

The demand for renewable energy materials are is just too low at the moment. No matter how aware people are, converting their household into eco friendly homes may take them a back before they try it out. It takes weeks of thinking before people change all their lighting from incandescent to energy saving fluorescent bulbs.

How much more thinking would you think it will require for them to install a solar panel or a wind mill to cut down energy costs by half?

Fourth, innovator and manufacturer misunderstanding can lead the renewable energy company to crumble. If the company is dependent on a manufacturer other than them manufacturing the products, misunderstanding can easily break the ties of the two companies. Thus leading the other to fall apart and die.

It is a different case however if the company manufacture their own products. Nonetheless, small scale renewable energy companies can not afford such production especially if small quantities are asked to be produced.

Production cost would be higher therefore market price is higher than mainstream renewable energy companies.

Lastly, after the hype of renewable energy marketing, the idea burns out and takes an exit on the scene. Harsh but true, once local television networks stops advocating the use of it, the hype disappears and so is the hope of selling these products.

Renewable Energy – Practical Home Options

by: Matthew HickAs a homeowner, you may be using renewable energy sources. Let’s look at a few of these important, powerful sources.

If you use solar powered lights to brighten your walkway, a solar cover on your swimming pool or hang your clothes out to dry, you are already making use of the sun’s renewable energy. There are many other renewable energy home options you can take advantage of, and by doing so, help preserve our environment.

The most practical of renewable energy options for the home consist of space heating and domestic hot water. This is over 50% of a household’s energy usage. In using renewable energy we can experience cost saving benefits.

Perhaps the best way to take advantage of renewable energy home options is when designing a new house. A southern wall taking advantage of an appropriate amount of windows can take full use of the low sun in the winter. Adding a roof overhang over these windows allow the higher summer sun to be blocked. Also, on a cool day you can open your windows to let a breeze cool off the house and make use of wind energy. You have achieved adding heat in the winter and coolness in the summer, thereby lowering your heating and cooling costs naturally. This is called passive solar heating since it is integrated with no extra costs. You can also do day lighting by taking full advantage of the sunlight during the day to take care of your daytime lighting needs.

Wood stoves can also be advantageous, if using only dead wood, diseased wood or small pellets made from wood chips, crop waste and other organic material for burning. This is a renewable source of heat through the use of space heating. Modern wood burning stoves are highly efficient, making it a more practical option.

A homeowner can also utilize active solar heating. A solar water heater can use renewable solar energy to heat water for a house. This would use solar collector panels placed on a roof. Water runs through pipes under these panels and is heated by the sun. The water travels to a water tank in your home for your use. Electricity can also be produced for a home using the photovoltaic technology. This runs on the same idea as a solar calculator. Solar electricity is ideal for rural homes where it would be difficult to run an electric line to.

Geothermal heat pumps use the heat from the Earth to move heat from one area to another. This system uses a series of underground pipes to move a heat exchange fluid. The heat pump moves this fluid, heated from the earth and transfers it to buildings for use. Initial installation costs are much the same as traditional heating systems, but operational costs are lower.

If you live in a windy part of the country and have quite a bit of land, wind can power a wind turbine to produce electricity for your household. But your location must be ideal to catch wind and you must be able to capture a certain amount for this to work.

These are some home options for renewable energy sources. By trying to utilize some of them we are preparing for our future by using clean energy that does not affect air quality or harm the environment.

Understanding the Market for Renewable Energy Jobs

by: AstuteThe growth in renewable energy jobs throughout the European continent has occurred due to a concern for resource shortages. Petroleum reserves throughout the world are dwindling and public and private organisations are concerned with the aftermath of an energy shortage. The push for renewable energies in the form of wind power, solar energy, nuclear power and other resources has created a growing job market. You need to understand specific areas of the renewable energy jobs market in order to find the best job for your needs.

The greatest area of commercial growth in renewable energy jobs is in the hybrid car industry. Automakers throughout the world are searching for engineers, project managers and scientists that are capable of turning gas guzzling cars into Earth-friendly vehicles. The process of creating a single hybrid vehicle is daunting considering the century of progress made toward perfecting the combustible engine. You can find renewable energy jobs with any automaker in the world at this point as companies try to out-invent each other to find the best hybrid vehicle.

Solar power has turned from a viable primary option to a reliable secondary option among renewable energy experts. The number of solar panels that would need to be laid out throughout the UK and Europe to make installation feasible would blot out the sun. Solar energy is considered an important part of new home building, however, as strategically placed panels over a carport are a good source of passive energy. You can apply your architectural knowledge to determine the best way to use solar energy in the construction of new buildings.

There has been a debate among renewable energy experts as to the sustainability and environmental impact of ethanol and nuclear power. Ethanol is a by-product of corn and other agricultural products that has been found as an alternative to unleaded fuel. The problem that many scientists have with ethanol is the vast amount of production required to make corn into a fuel additive. Your expertise in engineering and project management can help solve these issues once and for all.

Nuclear energy has been controversial among renewable energy activists for years due to several incidents involving the release of waste into populated areas. Aging nuclear plants need to be updated and waste management issues need to be resolved before nuclear power can be feasible as an alternative fuel source. You can bring fresh ideas and a knowledge of electrical engineering to this industry to fulfill your desire to help make renewable energy a reality.

Wish to Know About Renewable Energy Solar Wind Technology? Look for Enerlix!

by: Vikram KumarIf you’re concerned about your mother earth and the atmosphere in which you are living then it is the right time to act. It is necessary to act if we are well-determined to give a clean and idyllic planet to out future generation. It is only possible with the joint efforts of all the human beings existing on this earth.

A study estimates that mankind will face an excessive shortage of energy resources in the upcoming period of time. It is basically because the present sources of energy are limited (non-renewable) and will unable to meet the requirements of the population pressure of the future.

The limited sources of energy normally include the supply of natural gas, coal, petroleum, etc. to meet the needs of industries, various sectors and the common man. It will now take millions of years to attain the same stage where one can avail the same quantity of renewable sources which people were using to meet all kinds of needs some decades ago. In addition to this, an excessive use of the burning fuel is also promoting the threat of global warming in the entire planet.

What can be a sensible solution to the problem when in the upcoming decades we will lose all the major but limited sources of energy after doing immense amount of damage to the atmosphere in which we and all the other species survive?

We can get a better answer to this question with the help of renewable sources of energy. It is a matter of debate since past whether the non-conventional sources of energy are proficient enough to meet the ever increasing demand of energy throughout the world.

It is a fact that most of the people including a great margin of researchers and scholars not only believe but guarantee that non conventional sources including wind, solar, tidal and geothermal energy can be more competent to the rising needs of the mankind in contrast to the traditional conventional sources of energy. One better source of renewable energy is solar wind.

Like all the other renewable sources the best part of going for the renewable energy solar wind is that you can avail one more means by which it is possible to generate good amount of energy without polluting the atmosphere of earth. Like other renewable sources of energy you can avail all kinds of information about renewable energy solar wind with the help of internet. There are some of the good sites available on the internet which can provide necessary services on renewable energy solar wind for free! One such site is Enerlix, formerly known as Energyportal24.

Enerlix can be advantageous to you in many ways. It is counted among the superb market places for the environmental technologies. Enerlix is a site which is highly supportive to the user. With the help of navigation bar available on the site one can get in touch with all kinds of information including news, press releases, and events on all the topics including renewable energy solar wind technology. You can gain good information as well as submit your own opinion in the form of content for free. You can avail free online tools, articles, and publishing events after registering with Enerlix.

by: David TanguayRenewable energy is made from resources that Mother Nature will replace, like wind, water and sunshine. It is also being called “clean energy” or “green power” because it doesn’t pollute the air or the water. It a power source that is not limited, as fossil fuels are.

Renewable energy is considered a very important solution to a problem that has{readmore}grown out of control worldwide. It has been determined to be a clean alternative energy source.

Renewable energy is ready for a global takeoff, and has become the answer for a better tomorrow.

Renewable energy is a broad category of sources that draws from the energy around us naturally. Renewable energy is seen as one of the important components of climate change solution. It is astounding that so much of the worlds fossil fuels have been depleted, and that renewable energy is just now be sought as a viable alternative.

Renewable energy is the main component of eco-energy planning. It is available in a variety of methods of use, which can reduce energy consumption, preclude energy utilization and eliminate our dependence on non-renewable energy sources.

Renewable energy is produced from continuously available natural processes that do not involve the consumption of exhaustible resources such as fossil fuels. Renewable energy is also called “clean energy” or “green power” because it doesn’t pollute the air or the water.

Renewable energy is used for electricity generation, heat in industrial processes, heating and cooling buildings, and transportation fuels. It is assisting America in meeting its energy needs. Renewable energy effectively utilizes natural resources such as sunlight, wind, tides and geothermal heat, which are naturally replenished. Renewable energy systems encompass a broad and diverse array of technologies, and the current status of these can vary considerably.

Renewable energy power generated from the nearly infinite elements of nature such as sunshine, wind, the movement of water, the internal heat of the Earth, and the combustion of replenishable crops is very popular with the public and governmental officials because it is an unlimited and environmentally gentle source of power, particularly compared with the supposedly limited and environmentally challenging alternative of reliance on fossil fuels and nuclear power.

Renewable energy can help the United States rely on domestic sources of energy, which will eventually eliminate our need for oil or slow the growth of our consumption. Renewable energy can meet our energy requirements while decreasing our greenhouse gas emissions.

Renewable energy can provide significant opportunities for developing countries and rural areas as well as in industrialized countries.
