Global warming is happening, but is it really something we can prevent?
by: MarkWhy don’t either side of the argument consider cosmic forces as the reason why the earth is heating up? For instance the earth’s orbit is elliptical and could be expanding or contracting causing periods of extended warmth and/or extended cold (ie Ice Age). If this is the case, we might not be able to prevent it and so cutting back co2 emissions might not be the answer and we might just have to deal with and adapt to a warmer planet.

Nice try, but Earth’s orbit is extremely well known and if there were a change that could explain global warming, it would have been easily noticed already, especially by NASA who has to navigate things like the Cassini mission through a long interplanetary flight including a gravity assist pass of Earth, which requires knowing Earth’s orbit to an extremely high accuracy.

Like you, I believe global warming can just be a natural event. I think that over the history of the world, we have seen many times where it has gotten warmer or unusually colder.
As a christian, I don’t believe in the whole evolution crapola or stuff like that. But, I do believe that despite that, we should cut back on CO2 emissions, and try to preserve our earth. It was a beloved gift of God, and we should have as much respect for that as we do our own bodies. So, we should reduce CO2 emissions, recycle, protect our natural resources, etc.

The great majority of reputable scientists agree that Earth has undergone countless cycles of global warming / cooling; it’s clearly written in ice core samples, fossilized trees, etc.,. Those scientists not in cahoots with Al Gore and his ilk will tell you that there is nothing that mankind can do to *STOP* the current cycle.
There’s little doubt that our civilization is accelerating global warming and probably contributing to its severity, but we can not stop it from happening.

While we certainly need to pace ourselves, you are right. Our planet is a living thing, it corrects itself, and adapts to its own conditions. The planet goes through cycles as does the weather But, until recently nobody had the chance to takes readings and see them in real time from around the world. Most of the people who are warning us about the effects of global warming do not want you know that everything that is happening now happened before, without the hairsprays, and gas emmissions. We simply are making it happen quicker. The planet may or may not be able to keep up. They also abuse the fact that the single greatest area of advancement that the human race has endured is in communications therefore giving them a platform to get their ideas out there. Be careful, question everything and form your own educated opinions.

The only people with an agenda are those that try and dispute the evidence and overwhelming consensus that current warming trends are clearly the result of human activity. The reasons for this are many but one clear indicator is the timescale on which this is happening. Climate change from natural cycles occurs on a scale of many thousands of years, the fact that the current trend has only occurred during the time since the industrial revolution certainly points towards human involvement. People who “doubt” global warming or evolution always have non-scientific agendas.

Some thinks that the global warming is part of a natural cycle that can’t be reversed anyhow! We are just begining to study climate changes on this planet, and geologically speaking our data harvested so far, is not enough to gives a clear pictures of what is happening and what will really happen! Of course, we have super computer making all kind of predictions, but hey, we cannot even tell the weather for the next three days and now everybody in the scientific field says that their simulation are showing strong indication that the climate will change and is changing because of our indusctrial activities! Common, lets face it, we don’t even know what is happening at the bottom of the Ocean yet!! How can we come up with ALL the data needed to simulate something relevant!!

In New York you can see the Global Warming going on. In Syracuse during the spring. 2 weeks well into it, it snowed 6 inches for three days then we had 70 degree wheather the rest of the month.

There are many believeable cause of global warming such as the sun’s hotspot, humans or natural process. But just to be careful i would make simple changes like use energy effient products and turning things off.

If Global Warming is happening, why do we manufacture highways with BLACK Asphalt, and not WHITE Asphalt or concrete?
If Global Warming is happening, why do we cover all of our roofs with BLACK shingles and not WHITE shingles?
If CO2 gas is the problem with Global Warming, why don’t we just begin planting more evergreen shrubs and trees which eat CO2 and produce Oxygen?
What kind of correlation exists between the increase in Global Warming and the increase in High Altitude Jet Flights over recent years?
Wasn’t the cancellation of Freon Gas for refridgeration supposed to stop all this?

You are correct, nobody knows for sure what is causing global warming, if it is man made it can corrected, if not there is probably nothing we can do about it.
